dc.description.abstractAsthma is a common chronic inflammatory disease of the airways characterized by variable and recurring symptoms, reversible airflow obstruction and bronchospasm. Asthma is the result of chronic inflammation of the airways which subsequently results in increased contractability of the surrounding smooth muscles. This among other factors leads to bouts of narrowing of the airway. The narrowing is typically reversible with or without treatment. Occasionally the airways themselves change. Common symptoms include wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. The purpose of current study is to formulate and evaluate the sustained release matrix tablet for doxofylline. The major goal of designing sustained or controlled-delivery systems is to reduce the frequency of dosing or to increase effectiveness of drug by localization at the site of action, reducing the dose required, providing uniform drug delivery, side effects like nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, dyspnea, headache, irritability, insomnia,tachycardia, hyperglycemia and albuminuria as seen in conventional tablets. Among various types of cellulose ether derivatives, HPMC polymers are popular in sustained release matrices due to their compatibility with numerous drugs.
