Dalit Autobiographical Narratives A Study In Ambedkarite Perspective

Abstract

The reseach study entitled Dalit Autobiographical Narratives: A Study in Ambedkarite Perspective is a critique of eight Dalit autobiographical narratives in Ambedkarite perspective embedded in six chapters. The narratives taken into consideration for the study are translated from different vernaculars into English viz. five from Marathi, two from Kannada and one from Hindi. They comprise five from Maharashtra translated from Marathi language viz. The Weave of My Life by Urmila Pawar, Growing up Untouchable in India: A Dalit Autobiography by Vasant Moon, The Prisons We Broke by Babytai Kamble, The Outcaste by Sharankumar Limbale, and Untouchables: My Family s Triumphant Journey Out of the Caste System in Modern India by Dr. Narendra Jadhav, two from Karnataka translated from Kannada viz. Ooru Keri by Siddalingaiah and Government Brahmana by Aravind Malagatti, and one from Uttar Pradesh translated from Hindi into English that is Joothan by Omprakash Valmiki. newlineIt is the impact of Ambedkarite movement that the Dalits became aware of education and their sensibility that they came up in abundance in the various forms of literature. As the sole inspiration of Dalit literature remained Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, it was a matter of research and interest to know what tenets of Ambedkarism has been reflected in Dalit autobiographical narratives. Therefore the researcher has undertaken to study Dalit Autobiographical Narratives in Ambedkarite perspective. The study of the whole canon of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and the critical books written by the activists and scholars who have shed light on the literature and works of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar is a herculean task to anybody else; therefore Ambedkarism has been encapsulated in bullet form after studying the books. The motto behind the research was to undertake maximum narratives to see the perspective of Ambedkarism in them, but due to time limit only eight aforementioned autobiographies have been undertaken to study in detail. newlineThe tenets of Ambedkarism derived are Philosophy of Egalitarian
