Generally porphyrins are synthesized by Adler method and Lindsey method newlineand widely applied for the development of sensors as it shows absorption and newlineemission peaks in the visible region and its electronic properties can be tuned by newlinesubstituting with other functional groups. Optical sensors encompasses both newlinecolorimetric and fluorescence sensors based on porphyrin/metalloporphyrin for newlinesensing metal ions, inorganic anions, organic moieties and biologically significant newlinemolecules. Exposure of certain metal ions can lead to many diseases including newlinecardiovascular, reproductive and kidney disorders. Certain inorganic anions and newlineorganic species can also adversely affect living organisms as well as pose severe newlinethreat to environment. Detection and determination of biological analytes or newlinebiomarkers can help in the early diagnosis and treatment of several human diseases. newlineAccordingly, great efforts have been devoted for the development of fluorescent and newlinecolorimetric sensors. In the presence of concerned analyte, rearrangement of energy newlinelevel of optical probe occurs and further facilitates interaction with analyte which is newlinemainly operated through various mechanisms like FRET, PET, ground state complex newlineformation, intramolecular charge transfer, exciplex formation etc. newline
