Abstract
Chapter I dealing with the general review on spectrophotometry and solvent extraction. Chapter II includes the synthesis of ligands such as, i) 4-(4 Nitrobenzylideneimino)-3-methyl-5-mercapto-1, 2, 4-triazole (NBIMMT) and 4-(4 Flurobenzylideneimino)-3-methyl-5-mercapto-1, 2, 4 triazole (FBIMMT). Chapter III describes the extractive Spectrophotometric determination of copper(II) with NBIMMT. The orange copper complex shows and#955;Max, 470 nm. The molar absorptivity and Sandell s sensitivity of complex in chloroform was 2.825×103 L mol 1cm 1 and 0.0224 µg cm 2. Chapter IV deals with development of sensitive method for quantification of platinum(IV) using NBIMMT. At pH 5.0 the platinum(IV) and NBIMMT on heating for 18 minutes forms stable red coloured complex. The system confirms Beer s law up to 17.5 ppm. Chapter V includes spectrophotometric determination of palladium(II) using new chromogenic reagent FBIMMT. In HCl medium FBIMMT readily reacts with palladium(II) and forms yellow coloured complex soluble in chloroform at room temperature and shows and#955;Max at 390 nm. The Beer s law was obeyed up to 17.5 and#956;g mL-1 of palladium(II). Chapter VI includes simple, rapid and selective method for determination of ruthenium(III) with FBIMMT. The method is based on the colour reaction between FBIMMT and ruthenium(III) in acetate buffer of pH 4.2-5.2. The ruthenium(III)-FBIMMT complex extracted in n-butanol shows extinction coefficient 2.7491 × 103 L mol-1 cm-1 and Sandell s sensitivity 0.0196 and#956;g cm-2. In chapter VII new, simple, selective and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for determination of gold(III) at ppm level using chromogenic reagent FBIMMT in presence of potassium iodide. The developed methods have been employed for the separation and determination of metal ions from associated metal ions in synthetic mixture and pharmaceutical samples, alloys, catalysts and real samples.
